My buddy came into town from the Tampa area and wanted to try spearfishing on the Atlantic side of the state. I tried to temper expectations, as it clearly is not going to be as good as it is in the Gulf. We went to Huguenot Park yesterday to try our luck at the jetty. The current was stronger than expected, even at slack tide. Visibility was shit, as expected. You could probably see about 6″ from your face. Sea turtles were everywhere, but finding and getting close enough to fish was tough. After catching one nice-sized sheepshead, we went back to the beach to fish on hook and line in the surf.

In the surf, it was low tide and there wasn’t much of a bite. Conditions were nice, though. We did catch a huge stingray and took it home for dinner. I had never tasted stingray before, and even though I heard and expected it to be good, it still surpassed expectations. Would eat again 10/10.
