I read and heard from various sources that Stinson Park in Ortega was decent fishing. It made sense, at least geographically, but unfortunately, you can’t fish from the bridge, and with some head wind, as there was yesterday, it’s virtually impossible to reach the channel outside of the surrounding shallows. It was also a pain in the butt to park (and there’s no public restrooms, FYI). I knew it was hopeless almost immediately, but wanted to keep up morale with my fishing buddy, so we stuck it out for about 20 minutes. Finally some passerbyers gave a reason to pack it up, telling us that the fishing was much better across the Ortega Bridge at Stockton Park, so we graciously accepted the tip and went to check it out.

Again, I could see how Stockton park fishing could deliver on some days, but this day was NOT it. The conditions were choppy, the water looked gross and foamy, as if it leaked directly from some sort of industrial waste zone — but still, anglers lined the park’s entire seawall rail. Nobody was catching anything. We fished for about 30min before calling it a day.

Honestly, I live in Riverside, so Ortega is only a 5 minute drive, but I can’t imagine going back. I’ll stick to fishing my own backyard seawall, and if I’m going to load up the truck, I might as well head to the beach for some pier and surf action.
