August 2, 2022 at 10:31 amWhats up with the strong man tidal currents in the surf? Usually in summer on days with calm seas, a 3oz pyramid is more than enough to hold bottom. Lately, it hasn’t even been close. Last trip to the beach my heaviest lead was a 6oz sputnik and it was blowing straight down the beach. What’s up?

2 years, 4 months agoI noticed this, too. Peculiar for summer, really. This past month, it’s been a struggle to hold bottom in the surf even during slack tides. Granted, I usually fish closer to the inlets, so the tidal current is stronger than what it might be at say, Jax Beach. Nonetheless, I’ve definitely noticed a trend of stronger currents, when wind is obviously not a factor. I’m no astrologist, but surely it has something to do with the alignment of the moon…
