August 23, 2022 at 8:27 pmI went back to Amelia Island State Park to hit the surf after experiencing great conditions but zero bite last week. This time, I went with my buddy and his two boys at about 9am. It was low tide and the morning started slow, but as soon as the tide started to come in, the bite switched on. Caught a handful of good-sized whiting, a lady fish, and undersized redfish and pompano.
The coolest part of the day came just before noon when a number of sharks were cruising by within a few feet of shore. I was casting a chunk of cut ladyfish in front of them, but they weren’t interested. They only wanted the rays they were chasing, which were fleeing the best they could into just a few inches of water. I wish I was able to capture better photos but relied on my buddy as I was trying to hook up. Unfortunately, the footage didn’t come out too well, but it was an incredible sight to behold. Meanwhile, some other guys are still out there in the water like it’s no big deal.
Anyhow, great day of surf fishing at Amelia Island!
